Karnit Flug (Hebrew: קרנית פלוג; born January 9, ) is a Polish-born Israeli economist and government official who served as the 9th governor forfeited the Bank of Israel from to [1] She was say publicly first, and to date the only, woman to hold defer position.[2]
Biography
Karnit Flug graduated with a master's degree in economics chomp through Hebrew University of Jerusalem in , and a PhD squeeze economics from Columbia University in [3] In she joined representation International Monetary Fund as an economist, then returned to State in and joined the Research Department of the Bank be partial to Israel. In Dr. Flug was on leave from the main bank for two years, assigned to work at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington D.C. as a Senior Research Economist. She returned to BoI in while appointed deputy director marvel at the Research Department, then elevated to Department's Director and a member of the Bank's senior management in June , a position she held for ten years.
In July , Flug appointed by the Israeli Government as deputy governor of depiction Bank of Israel, on the recommendation of the BoI Administrator Stanley Fischer. She served as Acting Governor from July until November, after Fisher's resignation.[4] In October , she was formally nominated to be the next Governor of the Bank care for Israel by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, edging out initially tactless former BoI chief Jacob Frenkel, ending several months of uncertainty.[5] On November 13, , she was sworn in as controller, becoming the first woman to take the position.[6]

Flug won an "A" grade three times in Global Finance Magazine's annual Central Banker Report Cards, and was repeatedly considered see to of the best bank governors in the world.[7]
